Mortal Kombat II official trailer II revealed
The tournament is finally here.
The second official trailer for Mortal Kombat II dropped on February 25, 2026, giving fans their first full look at Karl Urban as Johnny Cage and setting the stage for an all-out war between Earthrealm and Outworld. After the 2021 reboot built the foundation, the sequel appears ready to deliver the brutal spectacle longtime fans have been demanding.
The Tournament Takes Center Stage
This time around, the story dives directly into the official Mortal Kombat tournament. Earthrealm’s champions are forced into a no-holds-barred, gory showdown against the dark rule of Shao Kahn, whose dominance threatens the very existence of the realm and its defenders.
The new footage leans heavily into larger-scale action, intense fatalities, and a faithful embrace of the game’s tournament structure, promising a more direct adaptation of the source material.
Karl Urban Steps Into the Arena
Urban headlines the sequel as Johnny Cage, the fan-favorite Hollywood martial artist who was notably absent from the first film. The trailer showcases Cage’s signature swagger, sharp one-liners, and combat prowess, positioning him as a central figure in the coming conflict.
New cast additions include:
- Adeline Rudolph as Kitana
- Tati Gabrielle as Jade
- Damon Herriman as Quan Chi
- Martyn Ford as Shao Kahn
Returning to the franchise are Jessica McNamee, Mehcad Brooks, Ludi Lin, Josh Lawson, and Lewis Tan, alongside Chin Han. Tadanobu Asano reprises his role as Lord Raiden, while Joe Taslim returns as Bi-Han and Hiroyuki Sanada is back as Hanzo Hasashi and Scorpion.
Behind the Camera
Director Simon McQuoid returns to helm the sequel, working from a screenplay by Jeremy Slater. The film is based on the iconic video game franchise created by Ed Boon and John Tobias.
Producers include Todd Garner, E. Bennett Walsh, James Wan, Toby Emmerich, and McQuoid, with executive producers Michael Clear, Judson Scott, Slater, Boon, and Lawrence Kasanoff.
Joining McQuoid behind the camera are director of photography Stephen F. Windon, production designer Yohei Taneda, editor Stuart Levy, costume designer Cappi Ireland, casting director Rich Delia, and composer Benjamin Wallfisch.
Release Date and IMAX Push
Mortal Kombat II will be released exclusively in theaters and IMAX across North America on May 8, 2026, with international markets beginning rollout on May 6. Distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, the marketing campaign emphasizes the premium large-format experience with the tagline:
“The wait is almost over! Mortal Kombat II arrives in theaters and IMAX May 8.”
With Shao Kahn stepping fully into the spotlight and the tournament officially underway, the sequel appears poised to raise the stakes and deliver a more brutal, fan-driven chapter in the franchise’s cinematic journey.
